chaobellBeast, don't make me kick you in the nuts.
Translation: I brought home a brand new power supply, took the old one out and found a broken wire I hadn't seen before which led, sure enough, to the DVD drive plug (and had to cut the wires to the frigging case fan because they were permanent fixtures on both ends, which leaves me without a case fan for now), put the new power supply in, and I'm still having the same damned problem. Actually installing the drivers that came with the drive does fuckall; the thing isn't even getting power. The light blinks on boot and blinks on shutdown; between the two, the tray won't even open.
I hope I did not permanently fuck my DVD drive up by putting this off for two weeks.
I guess, when I get motivated to pull the box off the table, unhook all this shit, and set it in the light so I can see what the hell I'm doing to its guts again, I could make double sure I didn't wiggle a plug loose or something, then hook the old CD-ROM drive up and see if that works. If it does, I shall raise hell with CompUSA.
But I needed a beefier power supply anyway, as I plan to put a burner and a P3 or P4 in this thing eventually.
