*pets Norton*
Jan. 30th, 2002 09:33 pmA word of advice to those of you using McAfee and thinking you are safe from all nasty virii.
NOT.
Today, Alpha Tech went out to a business who swore by McAfee. They religiously updated their definitions, religiously ran virus scans, and so suspected anything but a virus when their machines started acting up. Alpha Tech took Norton with him, slapped it onto a machine, ran LiveUpdate, ran a scan, and watched as Norton rooted out not one, not two, but three virii McAfee missed, including Magistr AND Nimda. I forgot what the third was; it was some relatively piddly one compared to the other two nasties, Bymer or something of that caliber.
We had another machine come in today, again running McAfee, again with a recent-within-days set of virus definitions. Again we slapped Norton on it; again, Norton found infections that McAfee did not--this time, Magistr again, and...AND...LoveLetter, which there is NO FUCKING EXCUSE for a fully-updated McAfee not to have caught.
If you are using McAfee, I suggest you follow these simple steps to make sure your system is as protected as it can br against virii:
1. Go to Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel.
2. Remove McAfee.
3. Take your McAfee disks and throw them out the window.
4. Get thee to Best Buy and purchase Norton.
